Interactive Environments

As a research and design technique we develop technologies for environments and architectures, both for private and public spaces. Designing art installations for museums, festivals and special events provides us with insights about users and the desirability of future technologies.

The Art Installations featured on this page are available for purchase or hiring to Museums and Institutions, for details or for the design of a custom installation please contact us.

ei

ei sound and visual installationei is an interactive installation developed in collaboration with electronic music composer Junichiro Sakai. Sensors are connected with a microprocessor that sends data to a computer where the input data is eleborated and output as audio and visual information. Visitors to the exhibit can interact with the environment and create music compositions, record them and upload them to their mobile phones to share the experience with their friends.

Doodles

Phone Doodles InstallationThis art installation was developed for the WithOut Borders event. Doodles is an installation that uses ‘ready-made’ plastic phone charms in a dome environment enabling visitors to see the invisible radio frequency flow that is generated by cellular phones. Visitors are invited to step inside the geodesic dome that hosts the blinking charms and make phone calls to their friends.

PurePainPurePleasure

Pure Pain Pure PleasurePurePainPurePleasure was invited to the BEAP Biannual of Electronic Art in Perth, Australia and participated in the Symposiun Art as a Research Method. Art is a wonderful research tool to develop new concepts. Users under observation in research labs feel compelled to perform the role of a smart user, loosing control over their real needs. Testing a novel technology in the informal setting of a Museum or art festival allows to gain stronger insights and refine both the technology and concept faster. Additionally the randomness of user groups in Museums, allows for gathering data from diverse age and gender groups.

StoryDome

Story Dome Interface JarStoryDome is a powerful storytelling environment where users can interact with the surrounding space through physical interfaces. The physical interfaces are everyday use objects with seamlessly integrated electronic circuitry. The familiar objects used in the StoryDome contain audio cues related to the location where they are placed. The StoryDome creates an opportunity for users to experience a narrative-enriched immersive environment. StoryDome was installed at National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India.
